Artist Statement
My practice explores the way that environment affects the unconscious psyche represented with porcelain sculpture and found objects such as bricks, twine, tile and dirt from my home town. My process begins with using the surrealist method of automatic drawing as a way to reach my unconscious. I start with a simple shape I let my mind fill in the gaps and finish the drawing without a plan of what the finished product will look like. Then I create sculptures of various sizes in their likeness that are no larger than a foot.
